Five clubs fielded a total of sixteen two lady teams in this years Nancy Scranton Cup Matches. After a long day on Saturday with rounds lasting 5 to 5 1/2 hours the cup matches wrapped up in exciting fashion on Sunday at Franklin County CC. After much quicker rounds in the 4 hour range, two clubs, Green Hills GC and Shawnee Hills CC # 1 were tied for first place with a total of 327. The rules called for the club with the lowest round on Sunday would be the tie breaker. Green Hills GC shot a 154 verses Shawnee Hills # 1 with a 157, a marginal 3 stroke difference. The Green Hills GC team consisted of Melody Maurer, Sue Houseworth, Sabrina Wheatley and Kathy Ireland. The low round on Saturday at Crab Orchard GC was turned in by Shawnee Hills CC # 1 with an 82. Sunday’s low round resulted in a three way tie with a score of 77. Green Hills GC two teams each carded a 77, and Shawnee Hills CC # 1 also had a 77. A score card playoff beginning on hole # 18 going backwards resulted in a win for Green Hills team number 2 with a Birdie on hole # 17.

Green Hills GC wins the 2010 Nancy Scranton Cup by six strokes over Shawnee Hills CC and Hickory Ridge GC during tough weather conditions Sunday at Franklin County CC. This is a back to back win for the women of Green Hills GC!

Congratulations to Green Hills Golf Club for winning the 2009 Nancy Scranton Cup with a two day total of 332, one shot ahead of Crab Orchard Golf Club. Saturday’s low round in the alternate shot competition was a 78 carded by Robin Lester and Sarah Haas of Crab Orchard GC. Sunday’s low round in the best ball competition was a 76 carded by Sabrina Wheatley and Amie King of Green Hills GC.
